Carabassi Beach, Gran Alacant
The main part of many holidays is the beach and Carabassi beach has to be one of the best beaches on the Costa Blanca which boasts the largest concentration of blue flag beaches on the mediterranean. The golden sands of Carabassi beach backed by dunes and pine trees stretches from Arenales to the north, past the Cabo de Santa Pola lighthouse to the fishing port of Santa Pola itself, a distance of just over 5 kilometres.

The gently shelving sands make it an ideal place for families with young children who can play safely in the shallows and swimmers can indulge in snorkelling over the rocky outcrops a short distance from the shore, watching the many varieties of fish as they dart in and out of crevices .
A little further on from Gran Alacant , there is a designated naturist beach where it's possible to get an all over tan. You could end up using 20% more sun protection cream though.

Although the beach is only a short walk from the apartment, laden with picnic bags, brollies, inflatable crocodiles and fractious small children, some may however consider it too far to walk in the hot sun and prefer to drive, a journey of a few minutes. There are extensive parking areas behind the dunes and roadside parking on the stretch towards Arenales. Further on along the coastal road towards Santa Pola, there are a number of spots among the pine trees overlooking the sea that make a pleasant place for a picnic out of the direct sun.
